End of the Title Race for Orlando Pirates! No Top 8 for Kaizer Chiefs!
The Betway Premiership title race took a decisive turn on April 30, 2025, as Orlando Pirates suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sekhukhune United at Orlando Stadium. This loss, their second consecutive defeat, leaves the Buccaneers trailing league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by 12 points, effectively denting their title aspirations.

Sekhukhune United’s victory was secured by a 58th-minute goal from Trésor Yamba, propelling them to third place in the standings. Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns solidified their lead with a commanding 3-0 win over Richards Bay at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, thanks to goals from Arthur, Iqraam Rayners, and Marcelo Allende.
In another blow to Soweto football, Kaizer Chiefs’ hopes of finishing in the top eight were dashed following a 2-1 home defeat to Marumo Gallants on April 26. This loss marks the first time Marumo Gallants have won at the FNB Stadium, highlighting the Chiefs’ ongoing struggles this season.
With only a few matches remaining, Mamelodi Sundowns are on the brink of securing their eighth consecutive league title, while both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs face critical evaluations of their seasons.

What’s Next?
Even though both teams’ form has deteriorated, there is silverware awaiting one of them, they are both in the final of the Nedbank Cup which will be played on the 10th of May. Will it be Chief ending the trophy draught, or will Orlando Pirates get back to wining ways?.
